Well guys, here is a very interesting article that just came out in Transportation Topics. One FMCSA official was asked will 175,000 drivers lose their jobs. This came from an interview we did about a year ago from trucking safety official Jay Thomas of Packard Transport.
I quote from Transport Topics Special Report. Gary Woodford FMCSA chief program manager was asked if this was true, 175,000 drivers could be unemployed and he said "That's simply not true" and goes on to change the subject......HOWEVER Jay Thomas now with Freight Exchange still has a different view. He is quoted as saying " For the majority of the 3.3 million truck drivers CSA 2010 will have little or no effect, HOWEVER as many as 25% or 825,000 drivers will be effected and of those 10% will become unemployable". This has reduced the estimated job loss from 175k to 85k.
This is better then the 175k but could actually go either way since it is estimated by Thomas 825,000 drivers will be effected. The ability for a driver to keep driving won't be decided by the carrier but the insurance companies.
Another tidbit of info here is that the driver peer group will be all CDL holders so the score or rating you get will be used by the insurance companies to decide if you’re insurable or not.
I will post more as I continue to read and study this new information.Sincerely,Joseph

Minnesota Trucking Association CSA 2010 Recommendations
The Minnesota Trucking Association has posted their recommendations on the changes they feel CSA 2010 needs before going nationwide this year. From the read it looks like the companies there have had a real hard time with the adjustment and new regulations.
The very first paragraph tells me something ALL trucking companies are facing.
In May 2009, the Comprehensive Safety Analysis (CSA) 2010 pilot test became a reality for interstate motor carriers in Minnesota. Within days, hundreds of safe motor carriers received warning letters stating that they were deficient, that a case file had been opened, and that they were being monitored for compliance.
The full document is here with footnotes to better move around the document since it is very long document. Minnesota Trucking Association CSA 2010
I strongly urge this be studied and start a proactive approach to your driver training and testing now.
Were do you start? Online driver training, testing, and a 3rd party verification is a must in today's world.
I hope this information will help in providing your company with information provided by the Minnesota Trucking Association.
Sincerely,
Joseph

Intresting Note on School Buses and CSA 2010
I have been doing some research on crash stats large trucks verses passenger
carriers. Here is the graph for you to view to understand my concerns.
http://www.csa2010.com/articles/National_Summary_Large_Truck_Passenger_Carrier_Crashes.htm
If you look at passenger carriers their graph continues to go in the wrong
direction were large trucks have continued to go in the correct direction.
What do I mean by wrong direction? Crashes continue to rise for passenger
carriers.
I called FMCSA today and asked them what is going to change for school
districts when CSA 2010 goes into effect. Their answer was nothing.
School Districts (School Bus Drivers are Exempt) for just about all basics.
The only national requirements for a School Districts concering drivers.
1- Drug and alcohol screening.
2- Have a valid CDL.
This is crazy to not address the continued rise in passenger carriers safety
issues.
I was told the only way this could or would change is Congress has to
address the way School Buses are exempt from really all safety regulations
CSA 2010 is suppose to address.
Is this how you want your children protected when riding to school?
