The CSA Safety Measurement System (SMS) Updated.
The CSA Safety Measurement System (SMS) website has been updated with the September
28, 2012 snapshot. Check
your safety assessment now at: http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms.
Also available is FMCSA’s SMS Preview website. Carriers can log in to the site
to preview the first package of proposed changes to the SMS through two
websites:
1. Visit the CSA Website (http://csa.fmcsa.dot.gov/
2. Log in to the FMCSA Portal (https://portal.fmcsa.dot.gov/
FMCSA encourages motor carriers to view the SMS Preview to see how methodology
changes will affect their SMS results.

Will CSA 2010 effect a drivers ability to get a job
Well guys, here is a very interesting article that just came out in Transportation Topics. One FMCSA official was asked will 175,000 drivers lose their jobs. This came from an interview we did about a year ago from trucking safety official Jay Thomas of Packard Transport.
I quote from Transport Topics Special Report. Gary Woodford FMCSA chief program manager was asked if this was true, 175,000 drivers could be unemployed and he said "That's simply not true" and goes on to change the subject......HOWEVER Jay Thomas now with Freight Exchange still has a different view. He is quoted as saying " For the majority of the 3.3 million truck drivers CSA 2010 will have little or no effect, HOWEVER as many as 25% or 825,000 drivers will be effected and of those 10% will become unemployable". This has reduced the estimated job loss from 175k to 85k.
This is better then the 175k but could actually go either way since it is estimated by Thomas 825,000 drivers will be effected. The ability for a driver to keep driving won't be decided by the carrier but the insurance companies.
Another tidbit of info here is that the driver peer group will be all CDL holders so the score or rating you get will be used by the insurance companies to decide if you’re insurable or not.

FMCSA Delays CSA 2010 Implementation
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced that full implementation of CSA 2010 will be delayed to 2011. The agency’s original plan was to begin implementing the program in July 2010 and to have all states fully functional by December of this year. Read More.

Minnesota Trucking Association CSA 2010 Recommendations
The Minnesota Trucking Association has posted their recommendations on the changes they feel CSA 2010 needs before going nationwide this year. From the read it looks like the companies there have had a real hard time with the adjustment and new regulations.
The very first paragraph tells me something ALL trucking companies are facing.
In May 2009, the Comprehensive Safety Analysis (CSA) 2010 pilot test became a reality for interstate motor carriers in Minnesota. Within days, hundreds of safe motor carriers received warning letters stating that they were deficient, that a case file had been opened, and that they were being monitored for compliance.

I strongly urge this be studied and start a proactive approach to your driver training and testing now.
Were do you start? Online driver training, testing, and a 3rd party verification is a must in today's world.
